Healthy water is a human right.

We work to make the fundamental changes needed in our public water systems.

Recode is founded on the belief that solving social inequities and ensuring basic human rights, requires fundamental change in our system of public water governance. We have identified codes, laws and policies that govern water use and access as a critical public need and opportunity for meaningful change. Adopting new building codes that improve water treatment, reuse and sanitation will not only close gaps in social inequities and impacts to personal and public health, but also do so at a time of increasing environmental change.

Adopted 2018 Strategic Plan:

“Recode develops code and policy changes by hiring front line and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community members as equity consultants. Our consultants inform our work and ensure that solutions benefit those most in need of change.”

Recode’s mission is to be a catalyst for change in a quest to ensure access to healthy water for all people. We envision a world where codes, laws, and policies ensure equitable access to water sanitation and nutrients, are not limited by the reality of climate change.

We strive to achieve these goals by working with others to adapt current governance systems so that the safest, most affordable, and environmentally beneficial systems can be adopted for impacted communities and individuals.
