Recode is founded on the belief that solving social inequities and ensuring basic human rights, requires fundamental change in our system of public water governance. We have identified codes, laws and policies that govern water use and access as a critical public need and opportunity for meaningful change. Adopting new building codes that improve water treatment, reuse and sanitation will not only close gaps in social inequities and impacts to personal and public health, but also do so at a time of increasing environmental change.

Recode’s mission is to be a catalyst for change in a quest to ensure access to healthy water for all people. We envision a world where codes, laws, and policies ensure equitable access to water sanitation and nutrients, are not limited by the reality of climate change. Recode achieves these goals by working with others to adapt current governance systems so that the safest, most affordable, and environmentally beneficial systems can be adopted for impacted communities and individuals.
Equity and Non-discrimination Statement: Recode is a nonprofit with tax exemption status under IRS section 501c3 and does not accept financial support from for-profit infrastructure companies, registered political action committees, insurers or other individuals or groups that do not align with our mission.
