2030 IAPMO Unified Plumbing Code
Technical Committee Voting Member
Executive Director Pat Lando, serves as one of 31 voting members of the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) Unified Plumbing Code Technical Committee.
Recode is the only organization on the committee representing frontline communities, including low-income households and BIPOC communities. That independence is intentional. Unlike industry groups, regulatory agencies, or trade associations, Recode does not represent financial or institutional interests in how water systems are built or governed. This allows Recode to focus exclusively on public interest outcomes, including equity, affordability, and long-term system resilience.
This work requires sustained technical engagement, including research, proposal development, and in-person participation in national standards meetings. Active opposition from well-resourced stakeholders makes consistent presence and preparation essential. Standards decisions made at this level shape infrastructure outcomes for decades.
In parallel, Recode continues to expand partnerships addressing water affordability, equitable access, and climate resilience, connecting technical standards work directly to the communities whose lives those standards shape.
